May Day Black Prince Flower Boat Festival
Organiser – Black Prince Crew and Torpoint and Rame Peninsula Lions
A colourful traditional Cornish festival.
Fun for all the family.
This historic event starts in Millbrook at circa 10am and the procession winds its way around Millbrook and then on to Kingsand and Cawsand.
A traditional May Day festival to banish winter and welcome in the spring and summer – with hope for a fruitful harvest from land and sea.
Local homes and businesses decorate their houses to celebrate May Day and the festivities.
The festivities include music, song and dance through the streets, Maypole and Morris dancing, Town Criers and young Town Crier competition, crowning the May Day King and Queen, garden fete, music and choirs, green men, the traditional Cornish chough, and local fayre.
The Black Prince flower boat, decked in fresh flowers, which has been carried shoulder high through the local villages, by ratings from HMS Raleigh, is launched from Cawsand beach at around 4pm.
